Manager, Operational Readiness ? All jobs (page 1)

Rio Tinto's Technology and Innovation Group is partnering with Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company (KEMC) to develop the Eagle Nickel Project.??

? To support the development of the project, Rio Tinto is seeking an experienced?Operational Readiness Manager?to join our Project Development team in Ishpeming, Michigan.? The Eagle project is a small high grade nickel deposit located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.? The facilities to be developed will include a small underground mine with separate grinding and flotation facilities to produce copper and nickel concentrates to be sold to third party smelters and refiners. ? The Operational Readiness Manager will create an environment where people are unified in their efforts to bring Eagle online in an efficient and safe manner - on time and on budget, sharing best practices with other project groups in Rio Tinto. ? Accountabilities:
  • Provide leadership and strategic support in the development, management and close out of the Operational Readiness Plan
  • Ensure that the interfaces between the different functions within the plan are complimentary
  • Ensure that the Operational Readiness Schedule is fully integrated with the Construction schedule and updated when changes are made accordingly
  • Manage the work of the Operational Readiness scheduler and ensure that their role is closely aligned with the project controls group from construction
  • Ensure that the Operational Readiness Plan is aligned with the vision, mission, values and operational framework document
  • Ensure that the Operational Readiness plan and execution takes into account all legislative compliance issues in terms of permitting and regulations
  • Ensure that the Operational Readiness plan and execution takes into account all related planning for maintenance; including on boarding of personnel through final construction, development of PM schedules and establishment of relationships with vendors and practical experience if practical at other sites
  • Ensure that external and community relations issues are considered and managed as part of the operational readiness plan
  • Develop and manage the costs of the operational readiness plan ensuring functional costs where applicable are rolled up reflect a single operational readiness cost
  • Collaborate across all functions at Eagle with both leaders and professionals to determine strategic Operational Readiness priorities for the mine and Copper Product Group where appropriate.
  • Provide strategic and tactical advice and direction to corporate and site leadership in the areas of operational readiness, fit with construction schedule, compliance issues and potential fatal flaws within the operational readiness process.
  • Ensure leading practice and lessons learnt from other Rio Tinto sites are incorporated into the operational readiness planning and execution i.e. OT, North Rim Skarn, and Guinea etc.
  • Serve as primary communication channel between functions and to construction in all aspects of operational readiness with related visual planning to ensure all stakeholders engaged and informed.
  • Liaise with Rio Tinto BU's, Product Groups and Support functions (T&I, IS&T, RTP, etc?) as required
  • Provide leadership and support to any direct reports
Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in an engineering or technical field
  • A Business Management Qualification would be an advantage with experience in successfully launching large, and visible Greenfield operations safely - on time and on budget
  • Training in RT Leadership Competencies, Computer Literacy, Business Skills, and Operations Management
  • 5 years experience in a strategic, technical, operations or asset management role
  • 5 years of this at least at superintendent level with direct experience in underground mining and milling operations
  • Has worked with and influenced a large functionally diverse team
  • Experience in developing strategic plans across multi functional boundaries will be an advantage
  • Wider Rio Tinto Experience at least at a superintendent level
